About My Rough Sculpture
How do you make the timelessness of inert, silent objects count for something? How to use the dumbness of sculpture in a way that acts on us as living things?
~ Antony Gormley
Found material like stone and metal, and inexpensive material like plastic gutters and cement block, provide the structural element for my rough sculpture. Many of these sculptures rely the pull of gravity at the balance point to sustain their form. Later I learned that there is an actual breathing exercise developed by sculptor Shane Hart called “upala yoga” to find the balance point.
The plastic gutter sculptures called The Laocoon Series simply weave gutter elbows.
